June 1st marks the beginning of hurricane season. If you haven't already created an "emergency funds" account, this is a great time to do it, to prepare for any unforeseen disruptions. You don't want to rely on credit cards in times of an emergency. I have advocated, in past newsletters, for the Capital One online savings account.
They are free to set up, no monthly fees and you can link your local bank accounts to move money into and out of this emergency account, easily. In fact, I have got several that I have dedicated for things other than just emergencies.
Such as a Christmas savings account, a home improvement fund and a vacation fund. By directing a small amount each week, you will be surprised to see how quickly you will accumulate cash and never even feel the impact.
So next time a little financial bump in the road comes, and it will, you will have the cash to cover it.
